I discovered a long time ago that there is a lot of BS talked about marketing, particularly online marketing.
Success isn’t about how many sales you make or “big months” Success is about
Building a business you can be proud and building the life you want.
I posted this earlier in the week.
This is the secret to a long and successful online business. Let’s break it down.
Imagine building a loyal audience, one tiny step at a time, without hard selling, complex funnels, or big launches.
What if your marketing strategy relies on small, effortless actions that naturally lead your audience closer to their goals and yours?
This approach is grounded in the power of “micro-commitments,” which will reshape how you think about engagement.
But how do these small steps turn curiosity into commitment and create lasting connections?
In this newsletter, we’ll dive into how micro-commitments can transform your marketing journey into a seamless, trust-building experience that drives real results.
There’s a misconception in online marketing that success hinges on bold, decisive actions: a single pitch, a major launch, or a big leap from awareness to loyalty.
But effective marketing often comes down to a series of small, incremental steps.
These are “micro-commitments”tiny actions that, over time, take your audience closer to a destination they genuinely value. By building your strategy around these mini steps, you create a journey that feels achievable, accessible, and rewarding.
Start with Awareness, Not the Hard Sell
Many marketers make the mistake of jumping straight to the pitch. We’ve all seen it, you opt-in for a free guide, and the first email arrives… “buy this now”
But for most audiences, the first step isn’t to buy or even subscribe; it’s simply to recognize you exist and find value in what you offer.
• Micro-Commitment: The first touchpoint might be something as simple as a like, a share, or a reply. These actions don’t feel risky or demanding, so they become easy, no-pressure introductions.
• Example: Create content that encourages engagement without expecting a commitment, like polls or questions related to your business niche.
These low-stakes interactions start building familiarity and trust without a hint of pressure.
Build Trust Gradually with Value-Driven Content
Once your audience is aware of your presence, the next step is to start building trust.
This means delivering value consistently without immediately asking for something in return. By giving, you establish yourself as a reliable resource.
• Micro-Commitment: Sharing valuable content, such as blog posts, videos, or infographics, encourages the audience to connect with you in a way that’s natural and rewarding.
• Example: Offer free insights that solve small problems or answer common questions in your industry.
As people engage with this content, they start viewing you as a trusted advisor, which makes the next commitment a natural progression.
You can even expand this to your email sequences; I increased my earnings per subscriber by asking people to optin to receive a 2nd email sequence where I have links to my offers.
I show the whole process here:
Use Clear, Simple Calls-to-Action (CTAs)
Clear CTAs can transform an audience’s engagement without feeling forceful or pushy.
Each CTA should gently guide the audience to a small, achievable action, setting up a sequence that allows them to move at their own pace.
• Micro-Commitment: Design CTAs that guide audiences toward simple, incremental actions rather than big, immediate leaps.
• Example: Encourage actions like “Learn More,” “Explore Our Free Guide,” or “Join the Conversation.”
These CTAs are approachable and non-committal, making it easy for audiences to engage without feeling overwhelmed.
Make Personalization the Norm
One-size-fits-all messaging can feel impersonal, especially when your audience has specific needs.
By personalizing content to suit different segments, you can encourage micro-commitments that feel tailored to each person’s journey.
• Micro-Commitment: Personalization makes people feel seen and understood, increasing the likelihood that they’ll engage with your content.
• Example: Send segmented emails based on the content they’ve interacted with, or post social media content that speaks to specific interests within your audience.
When people see themselves reflected in your content, they’re more inclined to take the next step.
My biggest success with this was to track people who clicked on a link to an offer wait 3 days and if they hadn’t bought send them a free trial offer.
Set Up Small Wins Along the Way
As your audience continues to engage, give them a sense of accomplishment with every step. This builds momentum and reminds them that they’re making progress, one micro-commitment at a time.
• Micro-Commitment: Frame each interaction as a small win that brings your audience closer to a goal or solution.
• Example: If you’re promoting a course, offer a free preview module to give them a “win” that demonstrates the course’s value.
This micro-transformation builds a positive experience that motivates them to move forward.
Track and Celebrate Progress
People love to see their journey unfold, and progress tracking offers a powerful way to reinforce every step they take.
By celebrating these milestones, you remind them that their engagement is meaningful and appreciated.
• Micro-Commitment: Regular updates on their journey help them see the impact of each step, making them more likely to continue engaging.
• Example: If they’ve subscribed to your newsletter, followed you on social media, or downloaded resources, acknowledge these milestones.
Send an email or a thank-you message celebrating their journey with you. Much of this can be automated BUT by far the best application of this I’ve used is to send a personalised Video to people optin in for a free trial, I used an app called Bonjoro to record and manage the videos… check it out.

Create “Micro-Transformation” Experiences
Offering small, standalone experiences that showcase your value is one of the most effective ways to make audiences more comfortable with a larger commitment.
It gives your audience a taste of what you offer in a way that feels satisfying and risk-free.
• Micro-Commitment: Create short experiences that demonstrate value without a long-term commitment.
• Example: For service-based businesses, a free mini-consultation or audit can give people a taste of what you can do.
If you offer products, a sample or free trial can work wonders in building confidence in your brand.
Foster Ongoing Engagement
Micro-commitments don’t end with a sale or signup.
In fact, post-conversion engagement is essential to building long-term loyalty. This means providing value after the initial commitment, keeping the relationship alive, and deepening their connection with your brand.
• Micro-Commitment: Keep the relationship active by consistently offering value, even after they’ve made a purchase or signed up.
• Example: Follow up after a sale or subscription with tips, tutorials, or exclusive content that makes their experience with your product or service even better.
This ongoing engagement keeps your brand top of mind and reinforces the relationship.
A followup email sequence can be created that will automatically send new content tips and bonuses each week helping to keep you and your offers front of mind.
Think of Marketing as a Micro-Commitment Journey
Effective marketing is not about pushing for big actions; it’s about guiding your audience through a journey, one small step at a time.
Each micro-commitment brings your audience closer to their goals and deepens their relationship with your brand.
By focusing on these small, purposeful actions, you create a seamless experience that builds trust, fosters loyalty, and ultimately leads to meaningful growth.
So, next time you plan your marketing strategy, remember that simplicity and consistency can make all the difference.
