Earlier in the week, I sat down to write my daily article. Sometimes I know what I will write, other times, I let inspiration take me on a journey.
This was one of those times.
I started to write about why I write, and that led to something else… The “One Person” I write for.
22 years ago, that person was me.
Sitting in a cubicle.
A job I hated that didn’t inspire me.
In a job I don’t love. A job that depressed me and sucked the joy from life… Thank you, IBM!
Staring at a screen, half-zombie, half-daydreamer.
Trying to make it to 5pm without screaming in frustration.
The highlight of my week was a newsletter called Horizons Unlimited, by a guy called Grant who was travelling the world on a motorcycle.
That email saved me and helped me realise that I could achieve whatever I wanted if I truly wanted it enough.
And it would remind me there’s a way out.
That people really do live differently.
People do ignore the norms of a 9-5 and 2.5 kids at home and a garden, then a pension and a slow decay watching re-runs of 80’s TV shows.
Here I am now, sitting in Spain, living a life I couldn’t have dreamed of back in those dark days.
And I now when I write, I imagine that person that was me reading my post or newsletter.
And seeing my words.
Not because I think I’m important.
But because, for five minutes, they’re not stuck anymore.
They’re somewhere else.
Reading something honest. Real.
Something that reminds them they’re not alone.
And maybe, maybe, that spark turns into a fire.
I am giving them a possible way out.
A search.
A plan.
A tiny rebellion.
That’s who I write for.
Not the algorithm.
Not the audience.
Just one person who needs it right now.
You have the power to help change lives with your words …so use it… Remember, it’s not all about how much you can make from your audience!
Anyway, I’m telling you this because if you’re writing, building, or even thinking about creating something of your own…
Picture one person.
Not thousands.
Not a niche.
Just one human being having a rough day, who needs what you’ve got.
It’ll change the way you write.
And they’ll feel the difference.
If you’re one of those people building something small but meaningful and you’d like to be around others doing the same…
I run a private group called The Inner Circle.
(Yeah, the name is a bit cringey. But the people inside are solid.)
We swap ideas. Wins. Struggles.
No hype. No pressure.
Just a safe place to figure it out.
If that sounds like your kind of thing, you can check it out here. Or get access by becoming a paid subscriber to this newsletter
Stick with it.
You’re not far off.
I live in Spain too 😍‼️
We have a good life. Thanks for letting me be "one person" among your people to appreciate your words and connect today.
We all start on the sidewalk.
It's a matter of whether or not we take the actions to figure out how to get on the bus so that we can get a car.
